Snowkiting Camp FAQ – Your Top Questions Answered
How does a usual CAMP day look like?
Every day at our snowkite camp is filled with excitement and adventure! We kick off the morning with a refreshing stretching session, just 10 minutes before a hearty breakfast served around 9 am. During breakfast, we reconfirm the day's plan based on the latest weather forecast, ensuring everything is set for the best snowkiting experience. Whether it's kiting right outside the base or heading to new locations, each day begins with the perfect start to your snowkiting journey.
Lunch is flexible and fits around your adventures - if you're nearby, you can pop into the Fjellstugu restaurant for some hot soup. If you're out exploring, take your soup in a thermos and enjoy it along with a packed snack while out in the stunning landscape. After a day filled with snowkiting, there's time to relax before dinner, which is typically served at 7 pm. Dinner is more than just a meal; it's a time to share stories from the day, laugh together, and discuss plans for the following day's adventures.
Evenings are all about winding down and enjoying each other's company. We have a yoga evenings to help you stretch out and relax after a day on the snow, and our sauna, located right in front of the base, is available every evening for a soothing end to your day. We also enjoy playing board games, and for those musically inclined, we have some instruments available to create a lively, fun atmosphere.
With a mix of planned activities and spontaneous fun, there's always something to look forward to at our snowkite camp!
Do we stay at the same place the whole week?
It all depends on the wind, weather forecast, and your skill level. If you are a complete beginner, lessons usually take place right in front of our base. Once you become familiar with the kite, you can go on shorter trips along the road. Depending on the wind direction, we can also take you to other lakes so you can experience different locations. Everything can be discussed on-site. If you are an experienced kiter, you can launch your kite in front of the base and explore freely. It's possible to go on trips in all directions from Fagerheim. You can cover more than 100 km daily, with different trips every day. We always plan the trips for the day the night before, depending on the weather/wind conditions and the experience/shape of the participants.
What if there's no wind
We have plenty of alternative activities to keep you entertained. We can organize a trip to Voringfossen, Norway's most famous waterfall, or visit the ski slopes in Geilo. Other options include a visit to a swimming pool, dog sledding, or trying out some cross-country skiing or ski touring with the equipment we provide. For the Camp guests, transportation to these activities is included, but entrance fees or ski passes would be at your own expense. There are lots of exciting things to do, so you'll never be bored!
What if there is too much wind?
If the wind is too strong for snowkiting, we use wings to continue enjoying the snow and have some fun!
Should I bring my own gear?
It depends on you. Please always bring your own ski or snb boots and helmet, even if you are a total beginner. We have enough gear, so if you prefer traveling with just normal baggage, it is the option. Please remember that the equipment must be booked in advance.
I am a kitesurfer. Can I use inflatable kites on snow?
You can definitely use inflatable kites on snow if you're familiar with them. Below are the pros and cons, but it always depends on your preferences and experience.
FOIL Kites:
+ Better for long trips
+ More efficient in light winds due to higher performance
- Not ideal in strong or gusty winds (lines can tangle easily, and you might have too much power when it's not needed)
- Complex rigging
- Fragile (not the best choice for unexperienced kiters)
INFLATABLE Kites:
+ More stable in gusty winds
+ Better suited for strong winds
- You need to carry a pump (especially on longer trips)
- Require assistance for launching and landing
- Bulkier and heavier if you want to carry an extra kite for long trips
- Less efficient in light winds
We have kite rental on-site so if you want to try foil kites (or single skin kites) for lighter wind conditions, it is not gonna be a problem.
What equipment do you have for rent?
We have foil kites, single skins and inflatables:
- Flysurfer Souls (8/10/12/15)
- Peaks (5/6/8/11)
- Hybrids (3,5/4/5,5/6/7,5/8/9,5/10)
- Ozone Catalysts (6/8/10/12)
- Explores (6/8)
- Enduros (7/10)
Different types of freeride/freestyle skis (Dynastar/Lusti/Volkl/Armada etc.) with walking bindings (Marker Baron/Duke), skins and poles. Nobile snowkiteboards. Ozone and Upwind harnesses. We also have cross-country skis with boots and poles and small wings for too much wind.
I have touring boot, not the alpine one, can I bring it?
We use Marker Baron/Duke bindings on our skis, which support the following standard boot soles:
- ISO 5355 (Alpine Soles) - Standard alpine ski boot soles.
- ISO 9523 (Touring Soles) – Rockered touring boot soles with extra rubber grip.
Please double-check if your boots are compatible.
If you think your boots will work with this type of binding, we'll have skis ready for you. Otherwise, please bring your own skis.
What does „Full snowkiting gear package“ mean?
"Full snowkiting gear package" means that for 4000 NOK, you get full access to complete snowkiting gear for the entire week - including kite, harness, bar, and board or skis. The snowkite equipment is guaranteed and reserved for you. You'll also have access to extra gear like cross-country skis, snowshoes, or touring skis. These are available on a first come, first served basis, so you can still enjoy the mountains even on windless days.

Under The Supervision Of Experienced Arctic Explorers
Throughout your entire stay, you will be guided by experienced explorer members of Jan Simek's team, the Long Distance Kiting VAKE 2019 world champion!
We have been coming to the area since 2010 and know it like our own backyard.
Each day, we'll choose the best snowkite trip together based on the conditions and your level, and we'll ride side by side. If you're new to the sport, we'll teach you the basics - and in just two days, you'll be Snowkiting across the Hardangervidda plateau with us!
