Transport

The lessons in the basic concept take into account your own transport.

Meeting time and place

We call you 2 days before your lesson to confirm the meeting time and place. We usually meet at 10 o’clock at the gas station in Ustaoset, or we meet at 10:30 at our Fagerheim snowkiting base. Or we can meet somewhere else on the Hardangervidda plateau depending on the wind/weather conditions.

The total driving time from Geilo to the snowkiting spot where your lesson takes place is from 30 to 50 minutes.

Take with you

If you bring your skis, please take downhill skis that you would use for downhill skiing.

Pack with you:
  • ski/snowboard boots
  • helmet
  • goggles
  • sun cream with a high UV factor
  • lip balm
  • warm clothes like when you go skiing
  • warm socks
  • quality warm gloves
  • balaclava (it is good to cover your face as well)
  • light hat to have under the helmet
  • thermos with a hot drink
  • snack/lunch

The snowkiting spot

The lesson takes place at one of the frozen lakes on the Hardangervidda plateau – we usually choose Orteren, Fagerheim, Skulevika, or Skiftesjoen (depending on the weather/wind conditions). If the conditions are not good up on the plateau, we might also use lake Ustevatnet in Ustaoset.

The teaching place is usually from 150 m to 400 m away from the main road and parking lot so you will have access to your car when you want to take a break. Your family member can accompany you directly to the spot and take some photos. We recommend her/him to take snowshoes or cross-country skis so he/she can move easily in the deep snow.

Lesson duration

The lesson with our instructor takes from 4 to 6 hours depending on the wind/weather conditions and your shape and abilities. Some people are cold after 3 hours, others don’t have enough even after 6 hours… it’s quite normal. Just inform your instructor.
